5 Ways a Professional Organiser Can Save You Money

Is your home feeling overrun by ALL THE THINGS? Are you tired of misplacing important documents, running late because you are searching for your car keys or spending a big chunk of your time tidying up after everyone in the family?

If so, can I be bold and suggest it’s time to consider hiring a professional organiser? While it may seem like an indulgent or unnecessary expense at first, here are 5 ways hiring a professional organiser will actually save you money not just in the long run, but almost immediately upon working together.

  1. A professional organiser helps you to see and access what you already have;

    Clutter and disorganisation often leads to unnecessary purchases. When you can’t find something you need, you go and buy a replacement - only to later discover the original item buried at the back of a cupboard!! Once you are organised, everything will have a place that makes sense making it easier to locate and access what you need and no more rebuying items you already have.

  2. A professional organiser helps you to maximise your space;

    Many people resort to renting storage units, building backyard sheds or moving to a larger home because they feel like they are running out of space. Inevitably that storage unit, shed or bigger two story, five bedroom home quickly gets taken over by clutter and the overwhelm continues even after the hefty hit to the back pocket.

    As part of the organising process, I will assess your home, assist you to declutter and let go of the items that are no longer serving your family or bringing you joy. I will then reorganise your belongings so you are making the most of your home’s storage potential and eliminating the need to invest money in more storage space.

  3. A professional organiser will help you prolong the life of your possessions;

    When items are stored correctly they last longer - In a wardrobe for example;

    • Clothing hung on wire hangers will quickly lose its shape

    • Knitwear over stuffed in drawers can get damaged

    • Shoes thrown into a corner are going to get tired and scuffed

    • A hanging rail space completely squeezed tight with clothing is a magnet for mould

      A declutter and re-organise of your space includes advice on the best way to store your items so they are going to last longer and save you money in replacement costs.

  4. A professional organiser will assist you to realise resale opportunities;

    I had been putting off selling my baby items and for the past couple of years they had been stored under the stairs just gathering dust, I finally decided to clear the space out, put the big ticket items like pram, stroller, cot, bassinet etc on facebook marketplace and to my surprise I made over $2000 from items that were sitting there no longer being used.

    I recently helped a retired couple downsize and get them ready to sell their home. The decluttering process was so successful that we were able to free up an entire Ikea bookcase - they popped it on marketplace and it was sold & collected that same day and they were $600 richer. Sometimes for smaller items it is not worth the hassle or time and you are better of to donate but good condition, big ticket items can provide a nice little cash reward for all your hand work.

  5. A professional organiser helps you become more intentional about purchases;

    This might be my favourite and most impactful way that a home organiser can change your life!

    The process of decluttering allows you see all of the ‘stuff’ that is filling your home;

    • The toys that were fun for 5 minutes.

    • Those unworn shoes that never quite fit you properly.

    • Those items of clothing (NOT recent purchases) with tags still on.

    • That stack of books you know you will never get around to reading.

    Once you have gone to the time and effort of clearing out the clutter and you are enjoying the amazing feeling that a clear and organised home has brought you, I promise you will want to keep it this way. You will naturally be more intentional and thoughtful about what you bring into your home and you will be amazed at how much of a difference this makes to the bank balance.

I hope I have shown you that the question should not be how much will it cost me to hire a professional organiser, but more importantly what is it costing you to keep all the things that you don’t like or need?
